Cathleen T. Butler, Esq.

Cathleen T. Butler has been practicing trust and estate law for over 25 years. Ms. Butler has substantial experience with counseling clients on all aspects of estate planning, estate administration, intestate administration, trusts, and probate. She specializes in counseling clients on developing and implementing estate plans through Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorneys, and Medical Directives as well as guiding clients through the estate administration process, including probate and intestate administration, the transfer of property, and advising on beneficiary designations for non-probate assets.

Ms. Butler has written numerous published articles on estate planning, estate administration and probate litigation. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Butler served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Patrick J. McGann, Presiding Judge of the Chancery Division, General Equity and Probate Part of the New Jersey Superior Court, Monmouth County.

Ms. Butler was a partner in the law firm of Butler & Butler where she practiced trust and estate law with her father, William B. Butler, for fourteen years in Westfield, New Jersey until her father’s retirement in 2024. She was formerly associated with Gibbons P.C. (currently known as FBT Gibbons), one of New Jersey’s largest firms, where she specialized in trust and estate law for over eleven years. Ms. Butler is the author of several published articles and a main contributor and co-author of New Jersey Estate & Trust Litigation Treatise, originally published in 2006, a leading authoritative guide on probate litigation in New Jersey, published by New Jersey Law Journal Books (ALM/Law.com.) Ms. Butler annually updates the New Jersey Estate & Litigation Treatise with a new volume published each year.
